Lord of Meath and Norman governor of Ireland
Hugh de Lacy was a Norman lord who arrived in Ireland in 1177. He was appointed as the governor of Ireland by King Henry II of England and was tasked with governing the newly conquered territories. De Lacy was a skilled military leader and was able to establish control over much of northern Ireland. He was also a patron of the arts and architecture, and his castle at Trim is still standing today. De Lacy died in 1211, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most important figures in Irish history.
