Islamic scholar and jurist
Ibn Taymiyyah was a 14th-century Islamic scholar and jurist. He was born in Harran, Ottoman Empire and studied Islamic law and theology at the University of Damascus. Ibn Taymiyyah was known for his critiques of Sufism and his advocacy for a return to the original teachings of the Quran. He was executed by the Ottoman authorities in 1328. Ibn Taymiyyah's works had a significant impact on Islamic thought and continue to be studied by scholars today.
