Inge Lehmann is a Danish geophysicist and seismologist. She is best known for being the first woman to discover the Earth's inner core. Lehmann was born in 1888 and grew up in Denmark. She studied physics and mathematics at the University of Copenhagen and went on to work at the Niels Bohr Institute. Lehmann's discovery of the inner core was a major breakthrough in the field of seismology and has had a lasting impact on our understanding of the Earth's internal structure. She is considered one of the most important female scientists of the 20th century.
