Founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was a Bengali Hindu monk and the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). He was born in 1896 in Calcutta, India, and studied Sanskrit and Indian philosophy. Prabhupada traveled extensively throughout India and the United States, spreading the teachings of Krishna consciousness. He wrote numerous books on spirituality and philosophy, including the Bhagavad Gita, and founded the first ISKCON temple in New York City. Prabhupada passed away in 1977.
