Dutch colonial administrator
Jacob Cuyler was a Dutch colonial administrator who served as the Landdrost of Uitenhage in the Cape Colony. He was a strong supporter of British expansion in southern Africa and worked closely with Governor John Cradock. Cuyler was born in 1765 in the Netherlands and served in the Dutch East India Company before being appointed to the Cape Colony. He was known for his administrative skills and his role in promoting British interests in the region. Cuyler died in 1835.
