Jacques Futrelle was an American mystery writer and journalist. He is best known for his short stories and novels featuring the character Professor Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen. Futrelle was a pioneer of the detective fiction genre and is considered one of the first writers to use the 'locked room' mystery trope.
