Novelist and screenwriter
James Clavell was a British novelist and screenwriter, best known for his epic historical novels. Born in 1921, Clavell served in the British Army during World War II, and later worked as a journalist and screenwriter. He is perhaps best known for his novel 'King Rat', which was adapted into a film in 1965. Clavell's other notable works include 'Tai-Pan' and 'Shōgun', which were both adapted into successful films. He was a prolific writer, and his novels often explored themes of history, culture, and human nature. Clavell was also a talented linguist, and was fluent in several languages, including Japanese and Mandarin. He passed away in 1994.
