Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau was a French explorer and cartographer who led several expeditions to the American West. He was born in 1784 in Paris, France, and began his career as a cartographer. Charbonneau is best known for his work with the Lewis and Clark Expedition, where he served as a mapmaker and interpreter. He was also a skilled artist and created many illustrations of the expedition's journey. Charbonneau's contributions to the expedition were significant, and he played a key role in the success of the mission. He died in 1866 in St. Louis, Missouri.
