French hunter and tracker
Jean Chastel was a French hunter and tracker who played a key role in the hunt for the Beast of Gévaudan. Born in 1730 in the rural French province of Gévaudan, Chastel grew up with a passion for hunting and tracking. He was known for his bravery and skill, and was often called upon to track and kill large game. Chastel's involvement in the hunt for the Beast of Gévaudan was widely publicized, and he became a celebrity of sorts in France. He died in 1770 at the age of 40. Despite his fame, Chastel's life and work remain somewhat of a mystery, and he is still remembered today as one of the most famous hunters in French history.
