French astronaut and engineer
Jean-Loup Chrétien is a French astronaut and engineer who was born on October 1, 1954, in Paris, France. He graduated from the École Polytechnique in 1978 and joined the French space program in 1978. Chrétien flew on two Space Shuttle missions and spent 198 days on the Mir space station. He is the first French astronaut to fly on a Space Shuttle mission. Chrétien is also a science communicator and has written several books, including the popular children's book series 'Jean-Loup'.
