Mexican outlaw and folk hero
Joaquin Murrieta was a Mexican outlaw and folk hero who lived in the mid-19th century. He is best known for his involvement in the California Gold Rush and his subsequent outlaw career. Murrieta was born in Sonora, Mexico, and later moved to California, where he became embroiled in a series of violent confrontations with lawmen and rival outlaws. He is often referred to as the 'Bandit King' and is remembered as a symbol of resistance against the Mexican-American War and the exploitation of Mexican workers in California.
