French composer and pianist
Johann Offenbach was a French composer and pianist who was active in the mid-19th century. He is best known for his operettas and his contributions to the development of the genre. Offenbach was born in Paris and studied music at the Paris Conservatory. He went on to become one of the most popular composers of his time, with works such as 'Orpheus in the Underworld' and 'The Tales of Hoffmann'. Offenbach was also a skilled pianist and performed with several orchestras throughout his career. He died in Paris in 1880.
