John Avery Lomax was an American folklorist and musicologist who was a prominent figure in the field of American music. He was a collector of folk songs and was known for his work on the blues. Lomax was a professor at the University of Texas and was a close friend of Lottie H. Hargrove. He was a mentor to Hargrove and encouraged her to pursue her passion for poetry and history. Lomax's work has been widely recognized and he is considered one of the most important figures in American musicology.
