John Balance was an English musician, artist, and writer, best known as the founder of the experimental group Coil. Born in 1954 in London, England, Balance was a key figure in the UK's underground music scene in the 1980s. He was also a member of the Psychic TV collective and collaborated with other notable artists, including Throbbing Gristle's Peter Christopherson. Balance's work with Coil explored themes of the occult, sexuality, and alchemy, and his music incorporated a wide range of styles and genres. He was known for his innovative and often provocative approach to music and art. Balance passed away in 2004, but his legacy continues to influence musicians and artists today.
