Confederate general and military leader
John Bell Hood was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. He is best known for his service as a cavalry commander in the Army of Northern Virginia. Hood was born in 1831 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served in the Mexican-American War and later became a prominent figure in the Confederate States Army. After the war, Hood became a successful businessman and politician in Texas. He died in 1879 at the age of 48.
