Politician and Nobel laureate
John Hume was a Northern Irish politician and Nobel laureate who played a key role in the peace process in Northern Ireland. He was a founding member of the Social Democratic and Labour Party and served as the party's leader from 1983 to 2001. Hume was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 for his efforts to bring peace to Northern Ireland. He was also a strong advocate for Irish reunification and was a key figure in the negotiations that led to the Good Friday Agreement. Hume passed away in 2018 at the age of 83.
