English clergyman and astronomer
John Michell was an English clergyman and astronomer who made significant contributions to the field of astronomy. He is best known for his work on the nature of light and his proposal of the nebular hypothesis, which suggests that the solar system formed from a giant cloud of gas and dust. Michell was also a pioneer in the field of optics and made important contributions to the study of the behavior of light. He was a fellow of the Royal Society and was elected to the position of Astronomer Royal in 1780.
