John Millington Synge was an Irish playwright and poet. He is best known for his plays, such as 'The Playboy of the Western World' and 'Riders to the Sea'. Synge was born in 1871 in Galway, Ireland. He studied at Trinity College in Dublin and later traveled to the United States. Synge's work was heavily influenced by Irish folklore and the lives of the common people. He is considered one of the most important figures in Irish literature. Synge died in 1909 at the age of 38.
