10th President of the United States
John Tyler was the 10th President of the United States, serving from 1841 to 1845. He was the first vice president to assume the presidency after the death of the incumbent. Tyler was a strong supporter of states' rights and limited government. He is best known for his role in the annexation of Texas and his opposition to the Mexican-American War. Tyler was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party and later became a member of the Whig Party. He died in 1862 at the age of 71.
