Pianist and conductor
Jorge Bolet was a Cuban-born pianist and conductor. He studied at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Bolet was particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Liszt. He conducted the first performance of The Mikado in Tokyo and was a frequent guest conductor at the New York Philharmonic. Bolet was also a prolific recording artist and released many albums of classical music. He was born in 1914 and died in 1998. Bolet was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 for his contributions to classical music.
