Founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Joseph Smith Jr. was an American religious leader and founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was born on December 23, 1805, in Sharon, Vermont, and grew up in a family of modest means. Smith claimed to have had a series of visions and revelations that led him to establish the Latter Day Saint movement. He is best known for translating the Book of Mormon, which is a scripture of the Latter Day Saint movement. Smith was also a lawyer and businessman, and served as a judge in the state of Illinois. He was killed in 1844 at the age of 38.
