Jozef Saramago was a Portuguese novelist, playwright, and politician. He is best known for his novels, which often explored themes of politics, history, and human nature. Saramago was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998. He was also a member of the Portuguese parliament and served as the country's Minister of Culture.
