Juan Carlos Fernández Cuesta is a Spanish politician and former monarch. He was the King of Spain from 1975 to 2014 and the Prince of Asturias from 1977 to 2014. He was born on January 5, 1938, in Rome, Italy. He studied law at the Complutense University of Madrid and later earned a doctorate in law from the same university. He was a member of the Spanish Parliament from 1977 to 2014 and served as the Minister of Justice from 1982 to 1984. He was the King of Spain from 1975 to 2014, following the death of his father, King Juan III. He abdicated the throne in 2014 in favor of his son, King Felipe VI.
