Juan de Mariana

Juan de Mariana was a Spanish philosopher and jurist who lived in the 16th century. He is best known for his work on the concept of the 'contrato social' and his book 'De Rege et Regis Institutione'. Mariana was a key figure in the development of modern political thought and his ideas have had a lasting impact on Western philosophy. He was born in Spain and studied at the University of Salamanca. Mariana's work was widely read and influential during his lifetime, and he is still studied by scholars today. He died in 1600.
