Historian and professor of Spanish history
Juan Manuel de Lavalle is a historian and professor of Spanish history at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is an expert on the history of the Spanish Empire in North America and has written extensively on the subject. Lavalle has also taught courses on the American West and colonial America. He is known for his work on the history of the Spanish missions in California and the role of Spanish soldiers in the early history of the American West. Lavalle has received several awards for his teaching and research, including the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship. He is a member of the American Historical Association and the Society for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies.
