Czech film director and screenwriter
Karel Kachyňa was a Czech film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on the film The Ear, which was banned before its release. Kachyňa was born in 1926 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He studied film at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Kachyňa worked as a screenwriter and director for several Czech film studios before becoming a prominent figure in the Czech New Wave movement. He was known for his dark and paranoid films, which often explored themes of politics and social commentary. Kachyňa died in 2008 at the age of 82.
