Karol Wojtyla, also known as Pope John Paul II, was a Polish Catholic priest and theologian who served as Pope from 1978 until his death in 2005. He was a prominent figure in the Catholic Church and a leading voice in the Second Vatican Council. Wojtyla was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for his efforts to promote peace and human rights.
