Katherine Swynford was an English noblewoman and mistress of Geoffrey Chaucer. She was born around 1349 and married John Swynford, a member of the English nobility. The couple had a son, Thomas Swynford, who went on to become a prominent figure in English society. Katherine's relationship with Chaucer was a significant one, and she is often credited with inspiring some of his most famous works. Despite her noble birth, Katherine's life was marked by hardship and tragedy, including the loss of her husband and son. She died in 1409 and was buried in the Chaucer family tomb in Westminster Abbey.
