King Ecbert was a 9th-century Anglo-Saxon king who ruled Wessex. He is best known for his ambition and military prowess, which helped to secure his kingdom's position in the face of Viking raids. Ecbert was the grandfather of King Alfred, who would go on to defeat the Great Heathen Army and secure a lasting victory for Wessex. Little is known about Ecbert's personal life, but it is said that he was a wise and just ruler who was loved by his people.
