Christine Lagarde is a French lawyer and economist who has been the President of the European Central Bank since 2019. She previously served as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund from 2011 to 2019. Lagarde has been a key figure in shaping the European Union's economic policies and has been a strong advocate for monetary policy independence. She has also been a vocal critic of populist and nationalist movements in Europe. Born in Paris, France, Lagarde studied law at the University of Paris and later earned a Ph.D. in law from the University of Paris.
