Astronaut and NASA engineer
Leland Melvin is an American astronaut, engineer, and educator. He was the first African American to fly on the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2008. Melvin has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland and has worked as a NASA engineer and educator. He is currently a professor of physics at the University of Maryland, College Park. Melvin has been involved in various space-related initiatives and has written several books on space exploration. He is also a popular speaker and has given talks at various conferences and events.
