American writer and humorist
Lewis Pearsall Weems was an American writer, humorist, and politician. He is best known for his humorous writings and his role in the Whig Party. Weems was born on December 21, 1808, in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia and later attended the University of Pennsylvania. Weems served in the United States House of Representatives from 1843 to 1845. He was a prolific writer and published numerous books, including 'The Life of George Washington' and 'The Life of Abraham Lincoln'. Weems was also a skilled orator and delivered many speeches throughout his career. He died on January 2, 1878, in Richmond, Virginia.
