British diplomat and governor-general
Lord A P Wavell was a British diplomat and governor-general, best known for his service in India and Burma. He was born in 1883 and died in 1950. Wavell was a highly respected diplomat, and he played a key role in the development of the British Empire. He was also a talented writer, and his book 'Other Men's Flowers' is still widely read today. Wavell was awarded a peerage in 1947, and he was created Earl of Athlone.
