British Viceroy of Ireland
Lord John French was a British politician and military officer who served as the Viceroy of Ireland from 1919 to 1921. He was a member of the British aristocracy and had a long career in the military, serving in several conflicts, including the Boer War. French was appointed Viceroy of Ireland in 1919, a position he held during the height of the War of Independence. He was known for his conservative views and his efforts to maintain British control over Ireland. French was a strong supporter of the British government's policies in Ireland and was instrumental in the deployment of the Black and Tans, a paramilitary force sent to Ireland to quell the IRA uprising.
