French physicist and Nobel laureate
Louis Néel was a French physicist who made significant contributions to the fields of magnetism and materials science. He is best known for his work on the discovery of the magnetic properties of rare-earth elements and the development of the theory of magnetic materials. Néel was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1971 for his work on the discovery of the antiferromagnetic materials. He was also a prominent figure in the development of the field of materials science and was a member of the French Academy of Sciences. Néel was born in Alès, France in 1906 and died in Paris in 2006. He is considered one of the most influential physicists of the 20th century.
