Marcel Lefebvre was a French Catholic priest and founder of the Society of Saint Pius X. He was a prominent figure in the traditionalist Catholic movement and was known for his opposition to the Second Vatican Council. Lefebvre was excommunicated by the Vatican in 1988, but he continued to lead his society and maintain his independence from the Church. He was a vocal critic of modernism and the Church's attempts to reform itself in response to the Second Vatican Council.
