Marcus Junius Brutus was a Roman senator and one of the leaders of the conspiracy that assassinated Julius César in 44 BCE. He was a member of the Optimates, a faction of senators who opposed César's growing power. Brutus was a skilled orator and politician, but his actions ultimately led to his downfall.
