Former MLB player and home run record holder
Mark McGwire is a former Major League Baseball player who played for the Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, and California Angels. He is best known for breaking the single-season home run record in 1998. McGwire was born in Pomona, California and grew up in a baseball-loving family. He attended high school in California and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 1986. McGwire played in the MLB for 16 seasons and was a 10-time All-Star. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.
