Martin McGuinness was an Irish republican politician who served as Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland from 2007 to 2017. He was a key figure in the Northern Ireland peace process and played a crucial role in the Good Friday Agreement. McGuinness was also a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) and was involved in the organization's armed campaign against British rule in Northern Ireland. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 for his efforts to bring peace to Northern Ireland. McGuinness was also a member of the Sinn Féin party and served as its president from 2006 to 2016.
