Matilde di Canossa was a medieval Italian noblewoman and regent of the Duchy of Canossa. She was the wife of Bonifacio I, Duke of Canossa, and played a significant role in the politics of the region. Born around 1046, she died in 1115. Little is known about her personal life, but her influence on the politics of the time is well-documented. She was known for her intelligence and strategic thinking, and was often referred to as the 'Empress of the North'. Matilde di Canossa is considered one of the most important female figures of the Middle Ages.
