Maya Angelou was a celebrated poet, author, and civil rights activist. Born Marguerite Annie Johnson, she was the first African American woman to have a one-woman show on Broadway. Angelou was a prolific writer and published several bestselling books, including 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings' and 'Letter to My Daughter'. She was also a recipient of the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
