Former US Ambassador to Japan and senior fellow at Brookings Institution
Michael J. Green is an American diplomat, academic, and author. He was born in 1964 in New York City and graduated from Harvard University and Oxford University. Green has served as a policy advisor for several politicians, including Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin. He worked at the State Department from 1993 to 2005, serving as senior policy adviser for East Asia affairs. In 2009, he became deputy assistant secretary of state for Japan Affairs. After leaving government service in 2011, Green became the US Ambassador to Japan from 2016 to 2017.
