Northern Irish poet and translator
Michael Longley is a Northern Irish poet, translator, and critic. He was born in 1939 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Longley has published numerous collections of poetry and has translated the works of several notable poets, including Pablo Neruda and Federico García Lorca. He has also written essays and criticism on literature and politics. Longley has been awarded several honors for his work, including the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1999. He is currently a professor of poetry at Queen's University Belfast.
