MJ Hegar

MJ Hegar is a U.S. Army veteran and politician serving as a U.S. Senator from Texas. She previously served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Hegar is a strong advocate for women's rights and military veterans' issues. She is known for her outspoken personality and her ability to challenge the status quo. Hegar was born in 1979 in Austin, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. She served in the U.S. Army from 2003 to 2011, including a tour of duty in Afghanistan. After leaving the military, Hegar worked as a lawyer and a business owner. She was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 and served one term before running for the U.S. Senate in 2020. Hegar won the Democratic primary and went on to defeat her Republican opponent in the general election. She is the first woman to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate since 1993.
