Rabbi and founder of the Jewish Theological Seminary
Mordecai Kaplan was a prominent American rabbi and founder of the Jewish Theological Seminary. Born in 1881 in Russia, Kaplan immigrated to the United States in 1902 and became a leading figure in American Judaism. He was a key figure in the development of the Reconstructionist movement, which sought to modernize Jewish practice and make it more relevant to American life. Kaplan was also a prolific writer and published several books on Jewish theology and history.
