Muriel McSwiney was a Irish revolutionary and communist who played a key role in the War of Independence. She was born in 1892 into one of Cork's wealthiest families, but rejected the privilege this life offered her. She became a radical republican and later a communist, and was known for her bravery and determination. McSwiney was a key figure in the Irish independence movement and was imprisoned several times for her activism. She died in 1955 at the age of 63. McSwiney's legacy continues to be celebrated in Ireland today.
