Ukrainian journalist and activist
Nadia Savchenko was a Ukrainian journalist and activist who was imprisoned in Russia for several years. She was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and died in Moscow, Russia. Savchenko was known for her reporting on the conflict in eastern Ukraine, and was a vocal critic of Russian actions in the region. She was also an advocate for human rights and democracy, and was a prominent figure in the Ukrainian opposition. Savchenko was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 2014, and was recognized as a hero of Ukraine.
