Nathaniel Greene was a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was born in 1742 in Rhode Island and served as a major in the Rhode Island militia before joining the Continental Army. Greene was a self-taught military genius who rose through the ranks to become one of George Washington's most trusted generals. He played a key role in several important battles, including the Southern Campaign, and was instrumental in forcing the British to retreat from the continent. Greene was also a skilled administrator and served as the commander of the Southern Department of the Continental Army. He died in 1786 at the age of 44.
