Paralympic athlete and kayaker
Nélia Barbosa is a French Paralympic athlete and kayaker who was born on October 12, 1997, in Paris, France. She was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis at the age of 15 and underwent several surgeries, including the amputation of her leg. Despite her disability, Barbosa became a passionate kayaker and went on to compete in several Paralympic Games, including the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics. She won two gold medals and two silver medals in the women's slalom and sprint events. Barbosa is also a motivational speaker and has given several talks on her experiences as a Paralympic athlete. She is based in Paris, France.
