Nelly Ternan was an English actress and the mistress of Charles Dickens. She was born in 1820 and began her acting career on the stage. Ternan's relationship with Dickens was a scandalous one, and she was known for her beauty and her influence on his writing. After Dickens' death, Ternan continued to act and eventually married a wealthy man. She died in 1891.
